I recently left the games corporation world and decided to go on my own.
So I`m officially a freelancer, now!
It`s an interesting feeling after working for companies all these past years.
But so far, so good.

So one day, David, a friend of mine had this idea of a futuristic world and we both sat down and started painting. After a day, this came to life.

Hey!

So I was in military mood the other day, started searching for some references and found a picture depicting some US soldiers somewhere in a Iraqi village. Loved it and totally inspired me to paint this piece. Also, it was a great way to get away from the stuff that I paint on a daily basis.

Well, finally I'm about to fly back to Romania tomorrow for a small Christmas vacation! And since I was bored before my flight, I nudged my old wacom pen a bit and did some quick sketches for my portfolio. It's been a pretty long time since I updated it so it was about time. Quick paintings as usual. Started playing with expressions on faces and the guy eventually started looking like the Joker... Same goes for the mime. It's all about her expression.

Hi everyone!

It's been quite some time since I updated my blog and that's for good reason. In the last couple of months, my life experienced an important twist which hopefully will lead to my carrier fulfillment.

I moved to Crytek - Budapest, as a concept artist. And that my friends, was a great decision. I mean the studio is totally awesome, filled with amazing people from all over the world and I get to do what I like most...and even get paid for it. What more do you need? Actually wait...I can think of something right now but that's for another topic. The thing is that since I moved to Crytek, I wasn't able to paint anything for myself, since I don't have any time in the evening when I get home. But hopefully, at some point, they will let me post all the work I did for them. So I will keep the blog up to date :)

Back with a few armor concepts I did for a game that we are currently working on. We wanted to test different styles to see witch one is best suitable for the game. As you can see, I ended up doing the most brutal and dark ones and It felt great. I just love doing this. There will be lots more in the near future and will post them as well. Oh yeah!

Now that's a great contest right there! I wish there were challenges like this every week! I loved The Witcher. It's one of the best games I have ever played. Great, immersive storyline. Makes you feel part of that twisted world. This is my contribution to the contest - The Forgotten Entrance. Forgotten and mysterious. That was the idea.

I have to thank my friends from work, (Catalin,Dgybol,Gino - great artists!!), for their constructive and inspired tips. But in the first place, I should thank my cat loving freak friend, Xenia, for letting me know about the contest :D Thankestest! Btw. your work rulz! Looks awesome!

The Dark Forest

Dark Medieval Times.

A few necromancers in a dark forest. I tried to tell a story with the overall mood of the painting. A somewhat sad and depressing atmosphere, specific for those times. Started out as a monochromatic piece, but I eventually couldn’t resist the urge to throw in a few colors.

Took me a couple of days to finish it. All done in Photoshop.

A new day, a new work...

Hey all,

I must say this has been for me one of the best years so far!

Well, first of all, I have a new job now and it’s a GREAT ONE! For the first time I feel totally relaxed at work and not the constant blood boiling stress that I experienced before. I work as a concept artist now, at Gameloft studios in Bucharest. In other words, I finally get to do what I like best. I paint all day long and I get paid for it.

Lots of talented people here but also lots of crazy ones! And don’t get me wrong, crazy and talented is the best formula for life you can get! The only things missing are mutants, but fortunately we get to draw them, so...

I also got great news the other weeks. My painting called IRON SIGHT ( painting above) got published in Ballistic’s newest book, Exotique 4. I can hardly wait to get the book and smell it and... probably eat it.

The Beginning

Ok, so let’s start with the older ones.

These were made a few years back when I was still experimenting with different styles. At one point I remember that I was totally obsessed by details. I had the constant feeling that the paintings I did, were not finished and still needed polishing. Of course that was foolish but at least it was good practice. I did a lot of high rez textures back then and studied the materiality of objects. I loved to paint metals, especially armors and such.

I didn’t finish too many paintings back then, but the ones that I did finish ended up on science-fiction magazine covers or got published in art books. So for me, that was a huge success and I was extremely happy that for the first time in my life, people would see my works all over the country and eventualy all over the world.

All the paintings I posted above, also made an appearance in Ballistic Publishing's Expose and Exotique books. These are excellent digital art books with unseen image quality and beauty. So I'm really grateful to them and honored that I got into their books. I mean, what can you ask more than that, as an artist?! (well...eheheh, I could think of a couple more things but...)

The idea of this blog is to post all my latest stuff, since it's easier than updating my whole damn website. I always hated that... Speaking of which, I will soon have my new version of it online, updated and better lookin'…hopefully. It was always hard for me to write about my own work... and questions like: "what did you have in mind when you painted that?" tend to freeze me and loose all my personality for a short period of time. You don’t have to necessarily premeditate everything. You just go with the flow...
